One of our keynote presenters this year at The Reset Conference is the incredibly talented Julie Paisley! …..We are in love with Julie Paisley. We know you are too… aaaannnnnd if you aren’t you will be after reading this post! Sit back, grab a cup of joe and drool on your self as you gaze at her work and read what she had to say in response to some of our questions!
Who inspires you? (personally or professionally?) – Elizabeth Messina
Guilty Pleasure? – shopping…I know, I’m boring. lol
Favorite Software (presets, actions, templates, etc?) – Photo Mechanic, Blogstop and Lightroom
Favorite Photo Find (Lab, forum, camera bag, etc.) – Millers, Photovision, The House of Flynn, Holdfast Gear
Most embarrassing moment? – Stepping on a brides veil when she walked down the aisle and letting dad take the blame for it, LOL. 🙂
Favorite quote? Right now it is, “you cannot grow inside your comfort zone” I don’t know who said but this is me in my time of life right now. Putting myself out there is hard for me, I’m not a “showy” “look at me” person but you have to do that in this business sometimes. You have to reach out to people, take chances and be vulnerable.
Favorite junk food? – Chocolate, always chocolate. lol
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? – anywhere in Europe. I just LOVE it there.
If you could have any super power, which would you choose? – the ability to clone myself, lol.
Any areas in your life that could use a “Reset?” – Personal relationships. In my business I’m always giving to my clients and fellow photographers but many times I give so much that not much is left for family and friends. I’m really trying to change that.
Favorite photograph you’ve taken? – it was on the beach in Laguna, CA. It’s totally out of focus and the girl is running with the sun hitting her. It speaks me to, telling me that it’s ok to be free and not be perfect.
What moves you? – Music and a good book
Have there been moments where you are photographing and you realize that this is bigger than yourself? – Yes, everyday. I’m constantly thanking God and praying to stay humble because I know this talent came from him and it could all be gone at anytime.
What words of advice would you give to someone just starting out? – Practice and learn, be a sponge and soak in everything and never feel that you have “arrived”.
What’s your typical day usually look like? – Up between 7-8am, Personal time, breakfast, Editing and “genius time” from 9-12, Emails and networking on social media from 1-4pm while being a mom inbetween.
What three words best describe your photography style? – Dreamy, Romantic and Real
Best secret for working smarter not harder? – Make a schedule and outsource.
Wish you had more of…? Wish you had less of….? – Always more time and less worry and things…need to declutter.
Any successes or failures in business that have shaped the way you run your business now? – ummm…yes….my business is successful right now because of failures. I’m the type that views mistakes and failures as blessings. I do think my greatest success is by being nice, positive and helpful. And caring, really caring.
Do you feel like attending workshops/conferences are valuable? – Absolutely.
Summary of what you hope to share with attendees of the reset conference. – Sharing the 5 major changes that helped me “reset” my business in the first talk and then sharing “photography hacks” in the second talk. Going over flow posing and little tricks of the trade that will save you time and help you out in a pinch. 🙂
- Thanks for sharing your talents with us Julie! We are so excited to have you at Reset 2016!
