3 Signs You Are Ready To Outsource Your Editing

SHARE

  1. You know your editing style.

Do you know your editing style like it’s your favorite song on repeat? Picture this: Could you pick out your work from a lineup without even remembering the specific session? Then you are in an excellent position to hire an editor. Since editors are working to recreate your style, it works best when you have a consistent defined sense of what that is across multiple locations, lighting conditions, etc. That way, you only need those few reference images to communicate what an entire gallery should look like.

If your style is all over the place – for example, if your portraits in one spot look like they were snapped by a different person in the next – fear not! An editor can help you define your style.
  1. You are ready to spend less time in front of your computer.
Are you backlogged on your galleries, with your delivering times stretching longer and longer? Do you dread the thought of running into a client because you haven’t finished their photos yet? Maybe you aren’t currently, but were you at that point sometime in the last year? Outsourcing can remove that stress, speed up your turn arounds, and clean up your backlog. (And when you are not currently underwater is the best time to set up an editor for the future!)

Not drowning in work but dreaming of more hours in the day for building your business or just spending time with your nearest and dearest? You’re not alone! Outsourcing can make that dream a reality.
  2. You are charging enough to outsource and still make what you want to take home.
If you are underselling yourself, outsourcing might not seem doable. But you can fix that! Connect with an editor and figure out the amount you would pay per session or wedding and adjust your rates accordingly. Many of my clients find that adding their editing fees per portrait session or wedding gallery enables them to afford outsourcing.

If you’re considering outsourcing your editing, there’s a whole world of options out there waiting for you to explore – private editors, editing subscriptions, ai culling and editing, or a combination of different services. Ready to dive in? I’d love to talk!
