Today’s blog takeover is by Caitlin Johnson (Collectively Caitlin), a productivity coach to creative entrepreneurs. She’s sharing with us today about setting and reaching your goals for 2017
I am SO excited to get to chat with you all at the Reset Conference! We are going to have a blast!
I am a productivity coach! I feel like that’s not a normal title so let me explain a little about what I do.
I work with creative entrepreneurs like yourself. I understand that most of us didn’t go into business so that we can work 100+ hours a week. Most of us did this so we can pursue our passions and spend more time doing other things we love! But somewhere along the line most of us start to overwork ourselves. We hear the word hustle thrown around like candy and busyness itself is often regarded as success itself! And I just don’t think any of this is true.
This is where I come in to help! I help business owners come up with strategies to work smarter and not harder. I want to help you streamline your business so that you are working more during your work hours, but less work hours. It is totally possible to have a thriving, growing successful business without working 80+ hours a week. I promise!
So what are some of the things I help clients with? Everything from creating a solid social media strategy, implementing the time saving habit of list making, helping them determine their pricing, boosting their SEO, and so much more!
But let’s get started with you guys here today! Since it’s January and we’re all talking about our goals for 2017 and making plans, I want to share with you my number one way of reaching your goals in 2017!
How To Ensure You Reach Your 2017 Goals
We all have a tendency to make new years resolutions and then not actually keep them past February. I am just as guilty as anyone else. But it really doesn’t have to be this way! So grab a calendar and some notebook paper and let’s do this.
At the top of the page, I want you to write down your goal. Whatever it is! Write it down!
Then I want you to brainstorm the 3-5 steps it would take you to reach that goal.
Write those three to 5 steps down on the page but leave space between them to fill more in.
Chances are, each of those 3-5 steps will require more than one action. So now under each of those, I want you to write the 3-5 steps to reach that one step!
So now you should have a total of 3-5 steps with 9-25 sub steps.
I want you to put them all on your calendar now! No more than 2 items a day. You can’t reach big goals in a day. So spread them out in a way that makes sense for you, this goal, and your business.
That goal looks a little less overwhelming when it’s spread out into lots of little steps over your calendar, doesn’t it?
Smaller goals may not have as many steps and sub steps. But some bigger ones may have even more! Whatever you goal is, breaking it down into bite sized chunks will not only save your sanity, but it will help you to actually reach the goal!
