Decatur destination wedding photographer to Madison WisconsinAmber Pond owns and operates Amber Nicole Photography in Decatur, Illinois, but recently traveled to Madison, Wisconsin to photograph a gorgeous wedding.  We asked her to share a bit about the wedding and how she landed a gig in a neighboring state.  Read on for more from Amber:

It was a cool, overcast Saturday morning as myself and my second photographer (my husband) pulled up to park a block away from the Madison Concourse Hotel, where Vanessa & Scott were preparing for their small, intimate wedding ceremony in Madison, Wisconsin at the Wisconsin State Capitol Building.  As I walked down Wisconsin Ave to the hotel, I knew this day would be one for the books — full of all things love and support.

I have known Vanessa for about ten years now — which seems crazy!  We actually went to school together down at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.  Thanks to Facebook, we were able to follow each other through the years after we graduated and went on with life.  Once I saw the exciting news about her pending engagement, I was SO excited for her!  And even more excited that after I sent her a message of congratulations and reminded her that I am a wedding photographer (wink wink #shamelessplug), I was even MORE excited when she decided to have me come and capture her day!

While I was with the bride as she was getting ready, I learned that they chose to get married in Madison because the couple spent a lot of time up in the city.  Being from the Rockford, IL area, it’s not a far drive and Madison is rich with culture, food, sports and so much more — which was very evident in the short time I was there!  In fact, Scott actually proposed to Vanessa on the top observation deck of the Wisconsin State Capitol Building where they would say their vows to each other in just a few short hours!

When it was time to head over to the Capitol, it was starting to rain, so the hotel generously offered to take us by shuttle so we didn’t get too damp.  From there it was up to the second floor to the Senate Chambers where immediate family and very close friends got to witness the bride & groom become husband & wife.  There was not a dry eye in the room as the vows they wrote were read to each other and rings were exchanged.  It was completely evident how much love was between not only the couple but their families.  After the ceremony ended and we wrapped up family pictures, Vanessa, Scott, myself and my husband walked around downtown Madison for about an hour and a half, finding the little nooks & crannies to capture some incredible images for them.

Being that this was my first (and hopefully not my last!) out of state/destination wedding, it was absolute perfection and such an honor to witness.  I hope you enjoy some of my favorite pictures from the day!
